Family and Sexual Violence Conference – Safe Equal Respected

Event description

This Conference will be held on the 13th-15th of June 2023 at the Launceston Conference Centre,  bringing together a diverse group of people including academics, those with lived experience and professionals. Local, State, National and international presenters will be sharing their work which aims to improve the safety of women and children. As a collective it is an opportunity for the sector to drive change & continually improve how Tasmania addresses family violence with the experience of victim/survivors at the centre, through learning, sharing & collaborating.

The coordination of the conference has involved sector partners including Dep. Education, Children & Young People, Laurel House, Yemeyer, Police, Family Violence Counselling and Support Service.

The conference is supported by the Department of Premier & Cabinet through the National Partnership on Family and domestic and Sexual Violence Grant 2021-23. A funded initiative which provided Women’s Legal Service Tasmania an opportunity to deliver family violence training to the legal and community sector.

David Mandel, Executive Director Safe & Together Institute (USA) Live streamed, Padma Ramen, CEO Australia’s National Research Org. For Women’s Safety, Professor Cathy Humphreys, University of Melbourne, Gabrielle Marchetti Job Watch, Magistrate Ben Keith and many more.

On the 16th of June there is a 4th day which specially focuses on Sexual Harassment and Gendered Violence. Confirmed speakers include senior Solicitor Emma Johnson Working Women’s Centre, Sarah Bolt Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, Barrister Kate Eastman, Gabrielle Marchetti.
