Women’s Legal Service Tasmania was delighted to hear of the appointment of Sandra Taglieri SC to the judiciary in the Federal Circuit Court, announced last week, CEO Yvette Cehtel said.
“Sandra has been a long-time supporter of the WLST. This support has assisted us manage complex matters as well as to navigate a range of operational matters. Ms Taglieiri SC assistance has transcended a diverse range of practice matters effecting women.
Sandra has supported countless women clients with pro bono advice, providing our solicitors with support and assistance with case work. She has done this work quietly, humbly and effectively for several years.
Her encouragement, support and openness to thinking about the law in its broadest terms has been greatly appreciated. No request for assistance has been denied and the quality of that free advice has always been exceptional, always considered and thoughtful.
Most recently Sandra provided us with advice and support around our podcast project which highlighted the sorts of behaviours that constitute family violence, following a grant from Communities Tasmania to diversify our legal information resources during COVID-19.
Sandra embodies the values of what we stand for at WLST. Her appointment is well deserved and we are thrilled her hard work, dedication, intellect and commitment to the law have been recognised as she transits to this leadership role on the bench.
Her leadership qualities, values and her dedication to law and justice in Tasmania are beyond reproach.
She has been a great role model to young women in the broader legal profession.
Her appointment is a great gain for all Tasmanian women. Her understanding of the experience of women accessing the law and in the operation of the law will be an enormous asset to the Court.
